Nuna Travel Car Seat and Stroller System Review

Nuna Travel Car Seat and Stroller System Review

An Honest Review of the Popular Stroller + Car Seat Combo

Choosing a stroller system is one of the most researched baby gear decisions first-time parents make. You’re purchasing a product that is used daily, something that needs to fold seamlessly into your life and backseat, all while keeping your baby safe, supported, and soothed.

Here’s the full breakdown of why we chose this stroller, what it’s been like after 10 months of daily use, and if we’d choose it again. But first, the four contenders we considered:

UPPAbaby Vista V3 + Aria was beautiful, smooth, and highly customizable with multiple seat configurations, but it came with a heavier price tag and a car seat that required a base. We knew we wanted something more flexible.

Mockingbird offered flexibility, tons of customization options and strong reviews, but didn’t include a car seat and felt bulky.

Doona was designed incredibly thoughtfully —every mom who has it raves— but we didn’t need that much portability and I wanted something that would last beyond the newborn stage.

RVL LX + PIPA urbn immediately stood out. It was lightweight, didn’t require a base, had sleek design, and I kept hearing how seamless the car seat installation was. What ultimately sold us on the Nuna system was the base-free car seat, which clips directly into almost any car made after 2003 using the rigid LATCH system. No moving bases in and out, no extra installs. It felt safe, modern, and intuitive. Paired with the TRVL LX stroller, it felt like the right balance.

What We Love

Car Seat Installation That Takes Seconds

The PIPA urbn car seat doesn’t require a base. I’ll repeat that, because it’s rate. It does not require a base. It connects directly to your car’s LATCH system, which most cars have if they were made after 2003. The installation is incredibly intuitive.

This became one of our favorite things about the system. It made switching cars effortless. No more reinstalling bases or trying to find compatible seatbelts. It’s just: click in, done. It comes with yellow guides that you can use if you want, it makes it quite a bit easier and you can just remove them if you’d prefer to not use them. Some cars seats are just really plush and the metal bars are tucked back pretty far, so it takes the guesswork out of trying to find them every time.

And, yes, I triple-checked safety, which I write about in the Safety Profile: Nuna PIPA urbn Infant Car Seat section below.

Lightweight but Durable

The car seat weighs just over 7 pounds (without inserts or canopy), and the stroller folds up and carries easily. On paper, it looks “travel light,” but it’s not flimsy.

Despite how light it is, this system is tough. We’ve put hundreds of miles on it. From our daily walk, to airports, across cobblestone, in and out of cars and more, the wheels have held up beautifully. The frame doesn’t squeak. Nothing feels cheap. It’s been a reliable part of our daily routine.

Fold and Go (With One Hand)

This might be my second favorite feature: the stroller folds with one hand, and it folds inward, so the clean side stays protected. It also stands up once folded, which makes storing it in tight spaces (like cafes or the trunk of a car) easy.

When you’re holding a baby, a diaper bag, and trying to get into your car fast, the last thing you want is a stroller that requires choreography.

It’s rare to find a fold this compact that doesn’t compromise on durability. If you live in a city or are constantly on the go, you’ll appreciate this more than you think.

Smooth Ride

On sidewalks and paved roads, the stroller glides. It feels effortless to push and has solid suspension. It’s not a jogging stroller, but it handles city terrain with ease. Compact dirt is fine, too. We regularly walk to the park with no issue.

Aesthetic & Cleanability

It’s genuinely a good-looking stroller. The design is minimal, modern, and polished. The colorways are neutral but elevated. The lines are clean and the leather accents feel luxe. Plus, the fabric is both flame-retardant-free and washable. I’ve wiped up coffee spills, spit up, drool and snack explosions without issue.

The fabrics are removable for deeper washes, and the frame hides scuffs well. Design-wise, Nuna nailed it as well.

Thoughtfully Designed – Small But Mighty Features You Might Miss In The Details

Every single feature of this product was thoughtout, and seems as if from a parent’s POV. Here’s a rapid fire list of the things that mattered, and are small, but mighty features:

No Scuffed Shoes: You don’t need to push up with your toe (if you’re a clean sneaker girlie like me, only pushing down to lock it on and off actually matters ha!)

Magnets for Simplicity: The carseat shade has magnents instead of clips, etc. So it easily snaps down, and has a zipper to hide it inconspicuously when not using.

Also the metal car seat clips that go into the seat magnet to the sides making it easy to put your baby into the carseat without having to fight the straps.

Color Safety Confirmation For Peace Of Mind: There’s a safety confirmation in the latch, which switches from red to green when secured correctly.

One Handed (almost) Everything — From the lever to fold the stroller up and down, to unlatch the actual carseat from the car, the magnet for the sunshade. They thought through how to make most (important) features done one handed. You cannot clip in your baby 1 handed.

What We Don’t Love

No Bassinet Option

This was something I underestimated. While our baby was tiny, he stayed in the car seat during walks. But I often wished I could lay him flat, especially for longer outings or nap-friendly strolls. It’s not a dealbreaker, but I’ll likely buy a second stroller with a bassinet option for our next baby.

Handlebar Height & Canopy Frustration

This is my biggest gripe. The canopy folds directly into where your hands go on the handlebar, which makes for a very awkward grip. There’s no adjustable handlebar either, and my 6’1” husband often feels hunched over when pushing it. For the price, I expected more ergonomic flexibility.

Two-Handed Zipper on Canopy Flap

The canopy flap has a zipper that absolutely requires two hands. It sounds like a small complaint, but in practice, it’s infuriating. You’re constantly stopping to fumble with it, and in a design that nails so many other details, this feels like an oversight.

Rough Terrain Handling

While it does great on sidewalks, compact dirt, and indoor surfaces, it doesn’t do great on gravel, grass, or through snow. The wheels rattle, the ride gets bumpy, and steering becomes noticeably harder. It’s not a dealbreaker, but if you’re planning to use your stroller on trails or uneven terrain often, this wouldn’t be my top pick.
